Orchids to Enjoy and Photograph

ORCHID SHOW! Cuba is in bloom inside the conservatory at New York Botanical Garden nybg.org. The Orchid Show: Cuba in Flower exhibit features thousands of orchids set among replicas of some of Cuba’s buildings and statues; it also features palm groves in a space modeled after one of that country’s treasured botanical gardens. So enjoyable--especially in the middle of winter!

If you want to photograph the orchids, you need to know that tripods are not allowed in the conservatory, so use an image-stabilized lens if possible. Cameras can be used only in designated parts of the conservatory. If you have a macro lens, think about taking some intimate shots of these amazing flowers--like the one I'm showing here, which I've titled Mango Flurry. New York Botanical Garden, Bronx River Pkwy at Fordham Rd, Bronx (718-817-8700, visit nybg.org for hours). Feb 27–Apr 11.
